Course Description

The study of Montessori pedagogy and child development as well as an interdisciplinary approach to the study of human beings, their endeavours and relationship with the universe for children from six to twelve years.

Qualification Authorising Body
The Diploma is awarded by the Association Montessori Internationale and does not form part of the Australian Qualifications Framework.
AMI is considered as the worldwide leader in Montessori education. Its certified training is acknowledged for its rigour and authenticity and the Diploma is internationally recognised. It qualifies the holder to work in a pre-existing 6-12 classroom or to start a new classroom. All Association Montessori Internationale Diplomas state the holder has “Studied the principles and practice of the Montessori method for children from 6-12 years of age” and has “passed the written and oral examinations”
The Diploma does not automatically qualify the holder to teach. The state or country in which the Diploma-holder wishes to work may have other teaching requirements that must be fulfilled. In New South Wales, all teachers must be accredited to teach through the NSW Education Standards Authority.

Delivery Mode

On campus
  • 440 hours of classroom based training
  • 140 hours of supervised practice with Montessori materials
  • 210 hours of Observation and Practice Teaching
1 academic year (10 months) full-time; or
Part-time block mode
  • Full-time, one academic year, commencing March 2020
  • Part-time, block-mode, commencing December 2020

Qualification Prerequisites
  • Bachelors Degree, or consideration of other relevant qualifications and experience; and
  • AMI Montessori 3-6 Diploma OR attendance on the AMI Montessori Foundation Course*

*5 week full time preparatory course run prior to the start of the Diploma course
