Course Description

The AMI Montessori Administrators Certificate is a comprehensive administrators’ training designed to support and deepen understanding of school leadership within a Montessori context. It covers matters essential for new administrators and experienced principals alike as well as other leaders in school settings such as business managers, deputies and aspiring school or centre leaders.

The course involves lectures, discussions, breakout groups, role-playing and observations in Montessori environments.

This course will provide students with the skills, knowledge and understanding of many topics relevant to leadership of a Montessori organisation including (but not limited to):

  • Core pedagogical principles as they apply to working with adults in an organisational context
  • Building a healthy school community
  • Strategies to support children, staff, parents and the board
  • Strategic planning
  • Community building
  • Organisational growth
  • Overcoming organisational challenges

Course Delivery

Enrolments remain open for our next AMI Administrators Certificate commencing Monday 3 June 2024 with

  • 4 online sessions once a week from Monday 3 June; and
  • 4 days in-person in Sydney (Friday 21 June to Monday 24 June).

Certification Requirements

  • Students must maintain a minimum 90% attendance to receive a certificate. When online, a student’s camera must be on to qualify as being in attendance.
  • Outside of the session times, students are expected to do an additional 1-2 hours of additional reading and classwork in the form of reflections submitted to their allocated trainer (advisor), 3 major assignments and 3 hours of observation. There will be 1-2 individual advisory meetings with students arranged during the course.
  • When online, students must attend the sessions in a space away from distraction as much as possible. Students must be able to take notes and participate in group discussions and breakout rooms.

Course Fees

Blended: $1,700 AUD + GST (as students may have additional costs in travel to Sydney)

Entirely Online: $1,900 AUD + GST (the next entirely online course is anticipated in 2025)

Online course only: Non-Australian residents who are outside of Australia, at the time they register for the online course and at all times during the online course, are not required to pay Australian GST in respect of the course fees.

Qualification Authorising Body

The Certificate is awarded by the Association Montessori Internationale (AMI) and does not form part of the Australian Qualifications Framework. AMI is a worldwide leader in Montessori education. Its certified training is acknowledged for its rigour and authenticity and the Certificate is internationally recognised. The Certificate does not automatically qualify the holder to hold the position of principal or other leader in a Montessori school. The state or country in which the Certificate holder wishes to work may have other requirements that must be fulfilled.
