AMI 0-3 Diploma Workshop

Topic: Emotional – Social  Development: This refresher will include reference to recent evidence-based findings in these areas and their relevance to our roles as parents and experienced educators.

Dr Montessori’s revelation of the Absorbent Mind ranks as one of the most profound insights into the life of babies and toddlers.  The ‘incarnations’ will significantly influence so many aspects of an individual’s development in the first few years of life! They will bear most strongly on the child’s emotional and social development – for better or for worse.  What the child absorbs, and incarnates, will depend substantially upon the human and physical environment within which the child experiences life.

6 hours of asynchronous work will be set for completion between the online sessions which will include case studies, reflection tasks and video review.

AMI 3-6 Diploma Workshop

Topic: ‘Where are the readers?’

There is an increasing focus on the literacy and numeracy skills of children in Australia with alarming results being released of poor skills in people entering and even leaving Universities!  Parents, teachers and schools all want to offer the best to the children but with such an array of different language systems and approaches this can become confusing and daunting very quickly.  “Should we use THRASS?  Is Jolly phonics any good?  Will I put Leap frog tag on my child’s Christmas list?  I’ve heard about the Fitzroy readers why doesn’t the centre have those?”

Fortunately, we already have the Montessori Language programme and don’t need to bring in other “systems”.

“Reading and writing are no more difficult to acquire than speaking is, since they are also ways to communicate. It is the adult who makes learning to read and write difficult when he or she approaches the two as subjects to be conquered, rather than discoveries to be made.” (Montessori)

Come to consolidate your understanding of how to help the child become an independent reader. Review and practice different oral activities, rediscovering their important links to reading.

Revisit the language materials and explore how they can be applied and extended to further inspire the child to be a lifelong passionate reader and learner.

If we give the child the keys to reading, we give them the keys to the world!

Dates Times

6 hours of asynchronous time to be completed between the on line sessions which will include selected guided reading with questions for reflection, practice of oral language, book making techniques and trying out strategies in the classroom to support reading.
